ANDERSON, S.C. -- The junior guard duo of Ashley Abed and Lauren Beeson combined for 30 points as Anderson got back on the winning track by outpacing St. Andrews, 75-52, in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center. Anderson has won four of its last five games and the Trojans (7-5, 6-1 Conference Carolinas) assured themselves of remaining in a least a tie at the top of the league standings along with Barton at the end of Saturday's action. The Trojans handed the Knights their sixth consecutive setback with St. Andrews falling to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Anderson never trailed in the contest, with freshman center Maci Siniard igniting a 23-2 run over a five-minute span that saw AU break away from an early 6-4 lead. The Knight's Megan Lee snapped the run with two free throws with 9:53 remaining and Anderson holding a 29-8 lead. The lead grew to 50-18 in the closing moments of the first half on a basket by Abed and AU held a 26-point halftime advantage. "It's great to get a conference win," Anderson head coach Jim Brunelli said, "We played a great game overall. Ashley [Abed] continued to play really well and [Breonda] Shannon gave us a great spark off the bench." Abed and Beeson shared game-high scoring honors with St. Andrews' Kayla Hay, each with 15 points on the night. Alexa Neal, Shanice Wilson and Alissa Diaz each added nine points, with Wilson dishing out a team-best four assists. Freshman Breonda Shannon came off the bench to collect a team-high six rebounds along with teammate Korie Sellers. Hay notched a double-double for the Knights, recording 14 rebounds. The Trojans have a one-day break before visiting Conference Carolinas-foe Coker on Monday. Tip-off at Timberlake-Lawton versus the Lady Cobras is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Hartsville. Box Score
