ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson capitalized on 29 turnovers by the visiting Lady Cobras and eased past Coker, 78-54, Thursday night in Conference Carolinas women's basketball action at the Abney Athletic Center. Coker (3-19, 2-15 Conference Carolinas) shot nearly 64 percent in the early going, but turned the ball over 10 times in the game's first seven minutes and the Trojans took advantage, pushing out to a 19-10 lead midway through the opening half. Anderson (12-9, 11-5 Conference Carolinas) closed its three-game homestand by winning its third game in the last four outings as it battles for position in the league, while the Lady Cobras have dropped 12 of their last 13 contests. The last time these two teams met on the hardwood, AU rallied from a 12-point second half deficit for a 59-56 road win, but never trailed tonight. The Trojans broke the game open with an 11-4 run late in the opening frame behind Siniard's traditional three-point play and guard Ashley Abed's six points to close out the half, giving Anderson a 40-29 cushion at the break. The outburst continued into the second half, with the Trojans scoring nine unanswered points before Coker's Kiesha Beavers snapped the drought with a free throw at the 16:18 mark. The Anderson lead grew to as large as 33 points in the closing minutes. "This was another total team effort tonight," Anderson head coach Jim Brunelli said. "We had good balance with both our inside and outside games. We set the tone on defense by being the aggressors." Siniard connected on her first eight shots from the field en route to posting her game-high 20 points and shared rebounding honors with Coker's Jasmine Alston, each collecting six boards. Abed added 12 points and handed out a team-best five assists on the night. Anderson visits St. Andrews for the opening contest of a three-game conference road swing on Saturday, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. Box Score
