Pioneers Take Two From Trojans

GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Anderson University softball (22-14, 7-9 SAC) fell twice at South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum (19-18, 6-10 SAC), losing game one 4-3, while dropping the nightcap, 11-7 on Wednesday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field.

In game one, Anderson scored first in the top half of the fifth inning when senior Kayson Boatner hit her 15th home run of the season, scoring freshman Shelby Bandt who had reached on an infield single. Tusculum quickly answered back with a solo run in the bottom half of the fifth and then tacked on three more runs in the sixth.

Anderson was able to score a single run in the seventh to pull within one run, with runner's in scoring position. However, Pioneer pitching was able to secure the final out of the game to claim the, 4-3, victory.

The Trojans chose to pitch three different pitcher's with sophomore Trinity Queen getting the nod to start. Queen pitched two inning, giving up no runs and three hits. Junior Lane Edington was assigned the next two innings, giving up no runs and two hits. Freshman Carson Hobbs (9-7) pitched the final two innings, giving up five hits and four runs, while striking out one.

In game two, Anderson once again scored first earning a 3-1 lead through two and a half innings. The Pioneers blew the game open scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a commanding, 11-3 lead.

The Black and Gold did not lay down, they continued to battle scoring two runs in the fourth and sixth innings to set the final score at, 11-7.

Sophomore Madison McDonald hit her third home run of the season, while Ava Worthy and Lauren Brakovec collected a double apiece.

Junior Lane Edgington (9-5) suffered the loss after 2.1 innings of work. Edgington gave up four hits and seven runs. Queen pitched 0.2 innings, giving up five hits and four runs, while Hobbs pitched the final three innings, giving up just one hit.

The Trojans remain on the road to travel to SAC opponent Newberry on Saturday. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
