Hobbs Tosses No-Hitter As Trojans Split With Braves

ANDERSON, S.C. – No. 12 Anderson University softball (12-4) split with nonconference opponent UNC Pembroke (3-7) winning game one, 2-0, and dropping the nightcap, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

On a day where hits were hard to come by, AU freshman southpaw Carson Hobbs (5-2) tossed a no-hit, one-walk and five strike-out game to help lead the Trojans to a game one victory.

The Trojans mustard together four hits with senior Morgan Charter going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Senior Yas Laureano blasted an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to drive in the first run of the game.

Junior Lane Edgington (4-1) suffered her first loss of the season pitching a two-hit, one run game. Edgington struck out two, while walking one.

UNC Pembroke used an error and a bloop double to score the lone run of the game. Anderson's best chance came in the bottom of the third after sophomore Maddie Carpenter led the inning off with a triple. However, the following two batters struck out and the Braves were able to get the third batter of the inning to pop out.

Anderson will open South Atlantic Conference play on Friday when it host UVA Wise. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
