Jaguars Sweep Trojans To End Ten Game Win Streak

AUGUSTA, GA. – No. 12 Anderson University softball (10-2) dropped its first two games of the season, losing game one, 4-1, and losing game two, 10-7, at nonconference opponent Augusta (7-2) on Thursday afternoon at Jaguar Field

"The fighter pilot who has all the technology the United States has to offer, that fired a missile and missed the Russian balloon performed better than we did today!," exclaimed Hewitt.

The Trojans could only muster up four hits and one run in game one, while committing five errors. Augusta used those errors and timely hitting to end Anderson's win-streak at 10 games.

Freshmen Lauren Brakovec and Ava Worthy, junior Hannah Whitaker and senior Kayson Boatner picked up one-hit apiece for the Black and Gold.

Freshman Carson Hobbs (4-1) suffered her first loss of the season, giving up five hits and a walk.

Augusta started game two off scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take the early lead. The Trojans answered back with a four-run second inning.

The Black and Gold cruised through the third inning, however the Jaguars used two hits and an error to score three runs to take a 5-4 lead. AU's pinch hitter freshman Shelby Bandt hit a hustle double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Boatner's bloop single scored the tying run, 5-5, after the top of the fifth.

After holding Augusta scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, Anderson hit back-to-back bombs in the top half of the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Junior Hannah Whitaker and senior Olivia Wheeler recorded their third home runs of the season.

The Jaguars wasted no time to get things going in the bottom half of the sixth inning, using four straight hits to tie the game and cause a pitching change. The first batter junior Laken Maxwell face hit a three-run home run to take the 10-7 advantage. Maxwell was able to retire the next three batters in order.

Boatner hit a 2-out single, followed by a hit-by-pitch taken by senior Morgan Charter to keep the hope alive in the seventh inning. However, the Jaguars were able to end the inning on a ground ball to the infield.

Junior Lane Edgington got the nod in game two, giving up seven hits and five runs. Edgington was relieved after 3.2 inning pitched by sophomore Trinity Queen (0-1) who was tagged with the loss after 1.1 innings pitched. Queen gave up five hits and four runs.

Anderson remains on the road when it travels to nonconference opponent USC Aiken on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:30 pm.
