Softball Splits Doubleheader At Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Anderson University softball (19-9, 5-5 SAC) split a South Atlantic Conference road matchup with Limestone (15-3, 6-4 SAC) to remain .500 in conference action. The Trojans have dropped its last 3-of-4 games

In game one, Anderson fell behind early, 1-0, before scoring two runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Seniors Yas Laureano and Jessica Neadow each drilled a solo home run to give the Black and Gold a, 2-1, advantage.

AU and Limestone each scored a single run in the sixth inning, before the Trojans distanced themselves scoring two runs in the seventh to set the final score at, 5-2.

Junior Laken Maxwell (4-0) went the distance, scattering seven hits and striking out 10 batters.

In game two, Limestone again crossed the plate first scoring one run in the third inning. Anderson quicky struck back using three hits and an error to produce two runs in the top of the fourth. The Saints tied the game up, 2-2, in the bottom of the sixth with the game remaining tied through seven innings of play.

The Trojans began the international tie-break with junior Hannah Whitaker on second. Laureano SAC bunted Whitaker to third base. Limestone's Haley White was able to retire the side with back-to-back strikeouts.

Limestone's first batter of the inning had a bunt single to move over the placed runner with Abigail Price hitting a three-run walk off to win game two for the Saints.

Freshman Carson Hobbs got the start pitching five innings. Hobbs gave up seven hits and struck out three before being relieved by junior Lane Edgington (8-3). Edgington pitched two innings, giving up three hits and three runs while striking out two.

Senior Morgan Charter and freshman Lauren Brakovec each collected two hits apiece with AU collecting a total of eight.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it host Wingate. First-pitch of the doubleheader begins at 1 pm.
