ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team split a pair of South Atlantic Conference games with Brevard losing the opener, 4-3, while coming from behind to win the nightcap,4-2, Tuesday afternoon at the Brevard Softball Field.

Anderson moves to 29-17 overall and 9-11 in conference play while Brevard posts a 18-32 on the year and 6-14 in SAC action.

GAME #1
Brevard 4, Anderson 3

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Leading the Trojans at the plate was senior Molly Child who went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI single. Sophomore Carli Hurtado batted 2-for-4 with two singles and two stolen bases to her credit. Catcher Cailah Niles, junior Augie Pena and freshman Kasey Grant each added a single to the Trojan hit total for game one.

Trojan hurler Pena was awarded the game one start, pitching a stellar four innings allowing no hits while striking out eight batters. Sophomor Randee Bettis came on in the fifth inning in relief pitching one and a third innings, giving up two hits and three runs (1 earned). Junior Lauren Rudesheim was tagged with the loss after relieving Bettis giving up two hits and the game winning run in one and a third innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Anderson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off of Child's solo home run in the top half of the first inning. Child's RBI single in the third inning pushed the lead to 2-0 while Hurtado knocked in the third run of the game in the fourth inning on a single to left field, scoring Grant from third.

The Tornados took advantage of the pitching change and several Trojan miscues to knot the game at three with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth frame.

Brevard used the momentum to retire the Black and Gold in order in the top of the seventh. After Brittan Miller reached on an error to lead off the bottom half of the seventh, freshman Michaela Smith made back to back plays getting the force out at second base. With the Tornados down to their last out, Kinsey Parrish hit a single up the middle followed by a walk-off double by Paige Atkinson to abruptly end the game.

Anderson 4, Brevard 2

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Leading the way for the Black and Gold in game two, Child and Pena both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Grant batted 2-for-3 with a double while Hurtado, Smith and Niles added one hit apiece.

Pena (12-4) got the call for game two, pitching a complete game victory giving up six hits while striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Brevard scored first holing onto a 2-0 lead through five innings. The Trojans finally were able to string together some hits, highlighted by a two-run blast by Niles to even the score at two. Anderson capitalized on a walk taken by Bivins later scoring the go ahead run on a single by Grant. The Trojans were able to add another run in the seventh frame while shutting down Brevard in its half of the final inning, claiming the 4-2 come from behind victory.

NOTABLES
• Child went 4-7 on the day with a solo home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
• Hurtado has reached base safely in 43 out of 46 games while currently on a six game hit streak.

UP NEXT
The Trojans will finish up regular season play when they travel to Wingate on Saturday for a SAC showdown. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
