ROCK HILL, S.C. -Anderson sophomore Augie Pena has been named
the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference softball Pitcher of the
Week following her outstanding effort on the diamond last week, as
announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
The Geneva, Ala. native notched three wins, one save and 31
strikeouts in 20 innings-pitched during last week's contests. Pena
earned her first win of the week on Thursday in game one versus
North Greenville while recording her second save of the year in
game two. The Trojan hurler got the nod in the nightcap against
Augusta on Saturday pitching a complete game 3-1 win finishing the
contest with 11 strikeouts. Less than 24 hours later, Pena stepped
into the circle against Winston-Salem St. striking out 13 in a 4-0
complete game shut-out victory.
Along with her stellar pitching performance, Pena had an
outstanding week at the plate for the Black and Gold. Pena batted
.412 on the week including two home runs, one being a walk-off
versus Peach Belt opponent Augusta. Pena also recorded a double and
had four RBI while drawing four walks. The designated hitter
boasted a .824 slugging percentage and .524 on base percentage
during the six games on the week.
With the six wins on the week, Anderson improves to 9-3 on the season. The Trojans return to the diamond on Saturday, welcoming Clark Atlanta for a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader.
