Trojans Drop Two at Carson-Newman

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team dropped two South Atlantic Conference games at Carson-Newman losing the opener, 6-0, while dropping the nightcap, 3-0, on Wed afternoon at the the Vickee Kazee Hollifield Softball Complex.

Anderson falls to 25-13 on the season and 5-7 in SAC play while Carson-Newman improves to 25-13 overall and 10-2 in conference action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Eagles hurler Allison Webster (14-7) was clicking on all cylinders in game one of the doubleheader. The junior right hander pitched a complete game no-hitter striking out 10 while walking two Trojans.

For the Black and Gold, Carli Hurtado led the game off with a walk while moving to second on a stolen base. Hurtado has reached safely in 34 out of 37 games and has stolen 12 bases out of 14 attempts on the season.

Augie Pena was the recipient of Webster's only other blemish, drawing a leadoff walk in the top of the fifth inning.

Pena (9-4) suffered her fourth loss of the season giving up five hits, six earned runs while walking six Eagles in an uncharacteristic day for the junior hurler.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Eagles Webster also got the nod in the nightcap pitching a complete game five-hit shut-out while striking out eight to win her 15th game of the season.

Trojans sophomore Trudi Shuman led Anderson at the plate going 2-for-3 while leadoff hitter Hurtado batted 2-for-4 in game two. Pena added to the hit total by going 1-for-3 ripping her eighth double of the season.

Junior Lauren Rudesheim (14-5) gave up three runs on six hits to take the loss for the Black and Gold.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE GAME
The last time the Trojans were no-hit was by Lincoln Memorial in the first round of the 2015 SAC Tournament. Following the defeat, the Black and Gold were resilient winning their next four games to earn a spot in the SAC Championship game

• With the shut-out sweep, Carson-Newman's head coach has recorded 299 SAC victories.
• Pena hit her eighth double of the season
• Hurtado has reached base safely in 35 out of 38 games.

The Trojans return home to begin a six-game homestand when they welcome SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. First pitch is slated at 2 p.m. at the AU Softball Complex.
