Burton Earns All-America Honors; Qualifies for 200m Finals at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. – On the strength of a second-place finish in the first of three heats in the 200 meter dash preliminaries, Anderson University rising senior Christopher Burton earned All-America honors Friday afternoon at the 2017 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are being hosted by the University of Tampa and IMG Academy.

Burton, who posted a time of 21.37 in the prelims, notched the fourth-fastest time (20:84) in the nation in Division II during the season, is among eight runners who will compete in Saturday's finals, which are scheduled for 7:55 p.m.

The Johnston, S.C., native was named the AU Male Athlete of the Year last month, while bringing home back-to-back AstroTurf SAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors in May and capturing First-Team All-Conference honors when he won the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash at the South Atlantic Conference Championships in record time.

Burton also claimed first place in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash at both the Emory Classic and the Montreat Invitational in late March.
