Trojan Track and Field Posts Stellar Marks at UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Led by junior Mason Hazel's first-place finish in the men's 5,000 meter run, the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their indoor season by posting 16 top-10 marks at the UCS Invitational, hosted Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.

Hazel and senior Ben Boerma finished one-two in the 5,000 meter run, by posting times of 14:58.54 and 15:36.27, respectively. The freshman duo of Brooks Hovis (16L11.20) and Luke Horne (1613.67) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Junior Christopher Burton finished ninth in the 200 meters in a time of 22.37, with classmate Caleb Stephenson just behind in 10th in a time of 22.76. Freshman Jordan Anderson crossed the finish line in 19th place in a time of 23.21, while sophomore Brandon Kauer was 30th in a time of 23.54.

The team of Burton, Stephenson, Kauer and junior Rashod Monts combined to claim second place in the men's 4 x 400 meter relay in a time of 3:26.04.

Senior Eric Hoover claimed ninth place in the men's triple jump with a distance of 12.46 meters, with freshman Matthew Shoup finishing in a tie for sixth in the high jump with a height of 1.82 meters.

Junior Anthony Aleruchi finished 10th in the shot put with a toss of 12.32 meters and claimed 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 12.58 meters. Freshman Chandler Johnson placed 16th with a distance of 9.36 meters.

Senior Michael Burch (9:40.76) and sophomore John Drummond (9:45.52) claimed 36th and 37th, respectively in the 3,000 meters.

On the women's side, a day after winning the mile run at the Clemson Tiger Tune-up, junior Haylee Love finished 10th in the event in a time of 4:59.34. Senior Olivia Gardner claimed 15th in a time of 5:10.60, with freshman Morgan Bridges crossing the finish line in 27th place in a time of 5:23.04. Freshman Rebecca Faircloth (5:35.81) was 39th.

Bridges also finished ninth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:21.37. Sophomore Maddie Buddenberg (20:00.48) and senior Mia Swiersz (20:04.29) finished eighth and ninth, respectively in the women's 5,000 meters. Junior Hannah Sanford finished 23rd in the 3,000 meters in a time of 11:16.63, with freshman Breck Jones placing 25th in a time of 11:28.13.

Freshman Jasmine Barmore (27.16) and sophomore Madison Seay (28.25) finished 22nd and 28th, respectively in the 200 meters.

Sophomore JoLyn Copeland finished ninth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 12.35 meters and also finished 21st in the shot put with a distance of 10.16 meters.

The 4 x 400 meter relay squad of Bridges, sophomore Madison Seay, freshman Emilee Edwards and junior Emily Pitts combined to finish sixth in a time of 4:14.04.

Following a three-week layoff, the Trojans are slated to open their respective outdoor seasons at the Raleigh Relays and the Winthrop adidas Invitational, March 24-25.
