Track and Field Posts Strong Outings at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams combined to post 13 top-10 finishes at the 2017 Clemson Invitational, Saturday at the Tigers' Indoor Complex.

Junior Christopher Burton finished fourth in the men's 200 meter dash in a time of 21.92, with junior Caleb Stephenson claiming 11th in a time of 22.71. Freshman Jordan Anderson (23.07) and sophomore Brandon Kauer (23.30) placed 13th and 14th, respectively.

Freshman Brooks Hovis claimed sixth in the men's 5,000 meter run in a time of 16:52.00, with junior John Drummond placing just behind in seventh in a time of 16:55.84. Senior Ben Boerma finished sixth in the men's mile run by crossing the finish line in a time of 4:27.01, while fellow senior Michael Burch was 16th in a time of 4:51.97.

Senior Eric Hoover finished eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.86 meters, while junior Anthony Aleruchi finished ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.81 meters and claimed 18th in the shot put with a toss of 11.50 meters. Freshman Chandler Johnson was 15th in the weight throw with a distance of 5.18 meters and finished 20th in the shot put with a distance of 10.42 meters.

The junior tandem of Stephenson (50.18) and Rashod Monts (50.85) finished seventh and ninth, respectively in the 400 meter dash, with Kauer claiming 18th in a time of 54.13. Monts, Burton, Stephenson and Kauer teamed up to finish ninth in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:29.85.

On the women's side, senior Olivia Gardner claimed sixth in the women's 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:37.92, with junior Haylee Love finishing ninth in a time of 10:56.23. The sophomore duo of Martha Coleman (10:58.48) and Maddie Buddenberg (11:34.56) finished 10th and 12th, respectively.

Gardner finished 10th in the women's mile run in a time of 5:18.91, while freshman Rebecca Faircloth claimed 17th in a time of 5:45.61.

Senior Mia Swierzs claimed 12th in the women's 5,000 meter run, while junior Hannah Sanford was 13th in a time of 20:13.98. Senior Grace Gerlock crossed the finish line in a time of 20:24.09 to claim 14th, while newcomer Breck Jones was 16th in a time of 21:04.26.

Sophomore JoLyn Copeland finished 13th in the women's weight throw with a toss of 12.25 meters and also finished 13th in the shot put with a distance of 9.59 meters.

Freshman Jasmine Barmore finished 18th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.46, while sophomore Madison Seay claimed 20th place in a time of 28.04. Barmore crossed the finish line in 13th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:02.99, with Seay posting a time of 1:03.11 and finishing 14th. Freshman Emilee Edwards was 15th in a time of 1:03.81.

Freshman Morgan Bridges topped the Trojan contingent in the 800 meter run by finishing 24th in a time of 2:27.23, with Faircloth taking 26th in a time of 2:35.27. Senior Bari Robinson finished 27th in a time of 2:35.68

The Trojans will get back in action Saturday at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
