Trojan Track and Field Continues Outdoor Season at Montreat Invitational

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Paced by Christopher Burton and Anthony Aleruchi on the men's side and Breck Jones on the women's side, Anderson University men's and women's track and field athletes competed Friday at the inaugural Montreat Invitational, which was hosted by the Cavaliers at their new Pulliam Stadium.

The two-day event featured nearly 900 student-athletes from a combination of 19 colleges and universities around the region.

Senior Christopher Burton won the men's 100 meter dash in a time of 10.87 and also won the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.78, while freshman Jordan Anderson finished fourth in the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 50.42, fifth in the men's 100 meter dash in a time of 11:19 and 11th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 22.86. Matthew Shoup finished fourth in the men's high jump with a height of 1.77 meters.

Senior Philip DeGraaf finished third in the pole vault with a height 3.65 meters and claimed 10th in the men's javelin throw with a toss of 41.29 meters, with John Drummond claiming sixth in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:44.57. Rashod Monts finished 12th in the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 52.31 and 17th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.18.

Sophomore Brandon Kauer finished 13th in the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 52.72, finished 12th in the men's 100 meter dash in a time of 11.44 and 16th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.16. Senior Michael Burch crossed the finish line in 11th place in the men's 5,000 meter run in a time of 16:41.22.

Eric Hoover finished 12th in the javelin throw with a distance of 40.56 meters, while Vojtech Velecky finished 15th with a toss of 38.52 meters, while junior Anthony Aleruchi finished seventh in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 40.12 meters and won the discus throw with a toss of 44.71 meters. 

Freshman Chandler Johnson finished finished 18th in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 25.97 meters, 23rd in the men's shot put with a distance of 10.39 meters and 19th in the discus throw with a toss of 30.56 meters. The combination of Monts, Anderson, Kauer and Burton finished second in the men's 4x100 meter relay in a time of 42.35. The same combination claimed sixth in the men's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:30.75.

Jones won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 12:08.78, with Hannah Sanford finishing third in a time of 12:59.13. Jasmine Barmore finished fourth in the women's 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.69, eighth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.07 and third in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.41.

JoLyn Copeland placed second in the women's discus throw with a toss of 38.01 meters, while finishing third in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 39.01 meters and claimed fifth in the women's shot put with a toss of 10.35 meters. Grace Gerlock finished eighth in the women's 1,500 meter run in a time of 5:16.36, with Mia Swierzs capturing 21st in a time of 5:31.82. Emily Olson finished 38th in a time of 5:56.40.

Freshman Emilee Edwards finished sixth in the women's 400 meter dash in a time of 1:02.05, with senior Bari Robinson placing fifth in the women's 800 meter run in a time of 2:31.13 and junior Taylor Morris finishing ninth in the women's 800 meter run in a time of 2:36.28.

The team of Barmore, Edwards, Morris and Robinson combined to finish second in the women's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:15.38

The two-day event was slated to wrap up Saturday. Results of Friday's men's discus throw were not yet available.
