Men’s and Women’s Teams Each Finish Fifth at SAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

HICKORY, N.C. – With a dozen Trojan student-athletes earning all-conference honors on the final day, both Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams finished fifth at the 2017 SAC Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Senior Christopher Burton captured First-Team All-Conference recognition by winning the men's 200 meter dash in a time of 20.84 – the second-fastest time in the nation this season. The Johnston, S.C., native also garnered First-Team All-Conference honors by capturing first place in the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.74.

Junior Mason Hazel claimed his second win in as many events by winning the men's 5,000 meter run in a time of 15:20.06 en route to First-Team All-Conference honors. Freshman Brooks Hovis (16:04.99) was eighth and senior Ben Boerma (16:44.28) was 18th.

Senior Eric Hoover finished second in the decathlon after winning the discus throw handily with a toss of 34.09 meters and finished second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 19.22, while tying for second in the pole vault with a height of 3.12 meters. The native of Lexington, S.C., was third in the javelin throw with a distance of 40.55 meters and was fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:39.59.

Junior Anthony Aleruchi finished second in the discus throw with a distance of 42.63 meters and earned Second-Team All-Conference accolades, while freshman Chandler Johnson (34.00 meters) placed 13th. Junior Rashod Monts collected Second-Team All-SAC honors with his second-place finish in the men's 400 meter dash in a time of 49.00, while fellow junior Caleb Stephenson (49.41) was fourth and freshman Jordan Anderson (50.61) was seventh.

Junior Anthony Aleruchi finished 11th in the men's shot put with a toss of 12.38 meters and freshman Chandler Johnson placed 17th with a distance of 11.09 meters. Senior Ben Boerma crossed the finish line in a time of 4:02.96 and finished sixth in the men's 1,500 meter run.

Senior Olivia Gardner earned her second top finish in as many days by bringing home first place in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 17:53.62 and earning First-Team All-SAC accolades in the process. Sophomore Abigail Bozarth (18:45.31) was fourth, while junior Haylee Love (18:54.84) was sixth and sophomore Martha Coleman (19:34.20) was ninth.

Junior Haylee Love captured Second-Team All-Conference honors by finishing second in the women's 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:39.30, while sophomore Abigail Bozarth (4:51.99) was fifth and freshman Morgan Bridges (5:05.24) finished eighth. Sophomore JoLyn Copeland finished sixth in the women's shot put with a toss of 11.20 meters and claimed ninth place in the women's discus throw with a toss of 33.10 meters.

Freshman Jasmine Barmore claimed fifth place in the women's 400 meter dash in a time of 58.78, with classmate Emily Pitts crossing the finish line in in seventh in the women's 800 meter run in a time of 2:27.15. Fellow freshman Morgan Bridges claimed eighth in a time of 2:27.15.

The freshman tandem of Barmore, Pitts, Bridges and Emilee Edwards finished third in the women's 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:03.17.
