Four Trojans Honored on All-SAC Teams, Larsen Named Freshman of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. - As the 2014 season came to a close on Tuesday, the South Atlantic Conference announced its 2014 SAC All-Conference Teams, as senior Lars Zimmermann, junior Andre Carle, sophomore Bo Haug and freshman Magnus Larsen of Anderson University men's soccer were honored, headlined by Larsen's SAC Freshman of the Year Award, announced by the league on Wednesday.

Larsen becomes the first SAC Freshman of the Year in the program's history as he closed the season with a team-high seven goals and tied for the team-lead in points with 17. Within his seven goals, Larsen totaled three game-winners, including the match's only goal against archrival Erskine on Sept. 17, giving Anderson's its first Beville Cup point. The Broenby, Denmark native also scored twice in a 3-1 victory over Brevard on Oct. 22 for his only multi-goal contests of the year.

Earning spots on the First-Team were Zimmermann and Carle after landing on the Preseason All-Conference Team to begin the season. Earlier this season, Zimmermann earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive year, becoming the first Trojan to claim the honor twice in the past five seasons. The first-team honor is Zimmermann's sixth award from the conference after being named to the Preseason All-Conference team twice, the postseason team three times and earned a spot on the all-tournament team following the 2013 SAC Tournament.

Zimmermann closed the season with three goals and one assist, as his season was headlined by scoring AU's equalizer and game-winner in a 3-2 overtime win over nonconference opponent Mount Olive on Oct. 15. As he captained the Trojan backline in all 18 contests this season, the defense claimed six shutouts. The Malente, Germany native ends his career with 57 starts with 12 goals, including a seven-goal season in 2012.

Carle ends the year with six goals and five assists, tying Larsen's 17 points for the team-lead. For his career, Carle has scored 18 goals in 37 matches played as he paced the club last year with 12 goals. This season, the Normanhurst, Australia native's year was highlighted by scoring the match's lone goal in a 1-0 road victory at Coker on Sept. 20.

Joining Larsen on the All-Conference Second Team is Haug, Anderson's starting goalkeeper. Currently, Haug ranks second in the SAC in victories and fifth with a 1.35 goals-against average. Haug spent over 1,395 minutes in the AU goal as he totaled 41 saves on the year en route to six clean sheets. For his career, the Stuttgart, Germany native has 12 shutouts with 122 stops.

The four named to the all-conference marks the most AU representation since the program's first season in the SAC when it listed five on the first and second teams in 2010.
