Men’s & Women’s Soccer Earn Spots into SAC Tournaments

ROCK HILL, S.C. - As the South Atlantic Conference schedule wrapped up on Sunday, Anderson University men's and women's soccer learned their conference tournament fates as both squads will head to Lenoir-Rhyne to open the 2014 SAC Tournament, announced by the league office on Sunday. The women's team will begin the day at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex at 5 p.m., followed by the men's team at 7:30 p.m.

The men's team enters the postseason on a two-match setback streak, including a 2-1 heartbreaker to Carson-Newman last Saturday. With their 6-5 conference mark, the Black and Gold earned the No. 5 seed and will square off with the fourth-seeded Bears. The match with L-R marks the first time since the Trojans entered the SAC in 2010 that they will not open the annual tournament with Wingate. Anderson seeks its fifth consecutive trip into the SAC Tournament final, having won three of the last four tournaments.

Lenoir-Rhyne finished the season with a 6-4-1 conference record and defeated the Trojans, 2-1, in double overtime on Oct. 10 at Trojan Stadium.

On the women's side, AU returns to the tournament after a one-year hiatus. With their 4-2 triumph over Carson-Newman on Saturday, the Trojans sealed a spot into the tournament and claimed the eighth and final slot. Anderson looks to avenge an earlier season setback to the Bears, as they fell 2-0 at Trojan Stadium on Oct. 10. Despite their conference record, the Trojans will look to carry its recent momentum into the postseason having won three of their last four contests.

Tuesday's matchup will mark the second time AU and Lenoir-Rhyne will link up in the conference tournament as the Bears ended the Black and Gold's season in 2011 with a 2-0 win.
