Zimmermann Earns Academic All-District Team Honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Anderson University senior defender Lars Zimmermann has been named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District III men's soccer team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Zimmermann's honor marks the second time in his collegiate career to earn a spot on the Academic All-District Team.

Zimmermann has captained a backline in 16 contests this season that has recorded five shutouts. From the backline, Zimmermann has scored three goals, including a two-goal performance in a 3-2 overtime win over Mount Olive on Oct. 15. For the year, the senior has handed out an assist and notched a game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Tusculum on Oct. 4.

This is the second time in his career Zimmermann has been honored on the Academic All-District Team after being the named to the squad during the 2013 season. The defender has also been named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Team twice, headlined by a first team honor a season ago. He was also picked to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Southeast Region team, while also landing on the All-South Atlantic Conference First Team in 2013.

Prior to the start of the 2014 campaign, Zimmermann claimed a spot on the Preseason All-SAC First Team for the second straight season. In his career, the Malente, Germany native has made 55 starts and has scored 12 goals, including a seven-goal season in 2012. Zimmermann has posted 65 shots with 31 coming on goal and has scored three game-winners.

"Lars is definitely deserving of the honor," Anderson head coach Michael Zion said. "He is a great representation of our program and how a student-athlete should represent himself. We're very proud of him on and off the field."

Zimmermann and the rest of the Trojans close their regular season on Saturday when they visit Carson-Newman. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
