Trojans Travel to Tennessee to Take on Lincoln Memorial

ANDERSON, S.C. - After a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over Mount Olive on Wednesday, Anderson University men's soccer returns to South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday when it heads north to face Lincoln Memorial. Kickoff from the LMU Soccer Complex is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Trojans
With its win on Wednesday, AU has won three of its last four with its lone setback in the span coming in double overtime to Lenoir-Rhyne. As Anderson continues its winning ways, the Trojans hold an even 6-6 overall record with a 4-3 mark and 12 points in the conference standings. With their 12 points, the Trojans are even with LR in fourth place as both teams look to clinch a home match in the opening round of the SAC Tournament.

Junior Lars Zimmerman was the hero on Wednesday as he scored the equalizer to send the match into overtime and eventually scored the golden goal in overtime, handing Anderson the victory. With his two-goal performance Zimmerman ranks third on the team in goal scored with three, falling just short of Andre Carle and Magnus Larsen, who have scored four goals apiece. With their four goals, the duo is tied for ninth in the league for the category.

In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Devon Ashy added his second collegiate victory making three saves on Wednesday. Historical starter, sophomore Bo Haug, has made 10 starts and has made 27 stops with four shutouts.

The Railsplitters
Having started the 2014 season with four straight wins, Lincoln Memorial enters the weekend with a 6-3-2 overall record with a 3-2-2 mark in the conference, placing the Railsplitters all alone in sixth place with 11 points. Following the four-match winning streak, LMU went 0-3-1 in its next four contests, headlined by two SAC setbacks to Mars Hill and Lenoir-Rhyne.

Following a 1-0 loss against Lees-McRae on Oct. 1, Lincoln Memorial returned to its winning ways as it enters Saturday's matchup winners of two of its last three, capped off by a 1-0 triumph over Queens last weekend.

The LMU attack is led by Leonardo Da Silva who currently ranks third in the league with six goals scored and seventh in total points with 12. Da Silva's season has been highlighted by a two-goal match in a 2-1 win over Coker on Sept. 13, as the junior has tallied five or more shots in four matches.

Senior goalkeeper Marcel Barwanietz has played in every minute this season for the Railsplitters, as he has made 43 saves in over 1,038 minutes played. Barwanietz is responsible for all six of LMU's wins on the year and has recorded four shutouts.

The Series
Lincoln Memorial spoiled AU's Homecoming a season ago, sealing a narrow 1-0 road victory. The win marked LMU's second straight regular season win over the Trojans, despite AU knocking off the Railsplitters in the 2012 SAC Tournament championship match. Since Anderson joined the SAC in 2010, the Trojans hold a tightly-contested 3-2 advantage over their Tennessee rivals.
