TRAVELERS REST, S.C. – With a pair of players notching their second-best rounds of the year, the Anderson University men's golf team is in fourth place following opening-round action at the Southern Tide Classic, which is being hosted by Limestone at the par-72, 6,952 yard Green Valley Country Club.
King and No. 49 Belmont Abbey are tied atop the team leaderboard at the two-day, 54-hole event, with North Greenville seven shots off the pace in third place. The Trojans are one shot further back in fourth place, with North Georgia and 18th-ranked Limestone in fifth and sixth place, respectively. No. 48 Barton holds the seventh spot, with Limestone (B) in eighth place entering Tuesday's final round.
Erskine, Coker, Southern Wesleyan and Erskine (B) round out the 12-team field.
After 36 holes, King's Leonardo Rigamonti leads AU's Reece Coleman and Erskine's Alberto Avila by three strokes after carding a 5-under-par 139. Coleman fired a two-round 142, which included a second-round 2-under 70, which marked the Port Elizabeth, South Africa, native's best round since carding a 67 at North Georgia in September. Three additional players are five shots behind after carding 144s on the day.
Junior Cal Brock posted a two-round 146 and is in a five-way tie for 11th place, while firing a season's best 72 in the opening round. Freshman Anthony Sutton is tied for 16th after notching a 147 on the day and senior Jake Miller shares 36th place following a 153 on the day. Classmate Drake McAlister is 67th after carding a 165.
Tuesday's final round is slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m.
