Men’s Golf Readies for Season-Opening Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate

ANDERSON, S.C. – After posting a pair of runner-up finishes and a 10th place finish in four fall tournaments, the Anderson University men's golf team is set to open its' spring slate at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, which will be co-hosted by Wingate and Lincoln Memorial, at the at the St. John's Golf & Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday.

The two-day event is slated for 7,136 yard, par-72 layout.

Through the four fall tourneys, freshman Reece Coleman led the Trojans with a 70.90 unadjusted stroke average and posted three top-10 finishes, including a pair of runner-up performances. A native of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Coleman fired a team-best round of 66 during the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.

Senior Jake Miller was just behind with a 71.30 unadjusted stroke average through 10 rounds. The Anderson, S.C., native notched a pair of fifth-place finishes and closed the season out with a sixth-place showing at the Donald Rodd Intercollegiate. Another newcomer, Anthony Sutton recorded a 74.70 stroke average and claimed a season-best seventh-place finish at the AU Invitational last September.

This marks the second straight year that the Trojans have opened the season at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, after finishing in 15th place a year ago.

Queens won the 2019 team title by one shot over the host Railsplitters, while Carson-Newman finished third. Barton, Palm Beach Atlantic and Flagler finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, with Wingate holding the seventh spot.

Coker and Mount Olive shared eighth place, while Hillsdale and North Greenville finished in a tie for 10th. Belmont Abbey, Southern Wesleyan, Albany State, Anderson, Arkansas-Monticello, Tusculum, Mars Hill and Catawba rounded out the 19-team field.

Coker's Wanjoo Lee claimed individual medalist honors after firing a three-round 213 and finished two shots in front of Queens' Jonathan Noble. Flagler's Juan Iturra claimed third place with a 217.

Miller finished in a tie for 17th, while Cal Brock shared 53rd place. Sophomore Colt Martin finished in a tie for 77th a year ago.
