Miller Tied for 31st Place as Opening Round of South Carolina State Amateur Championship Suspended Due to Weather

GREER, S.C. – Prior to play being suspended due to weather, Anderson University rising senior Jake Miller carded an even-par 71 and is in a six-way tie for 31st place following some of the opening-round action Thursday at the 88th South Carolina Golf Association (SCGA) Amateur Championship.

The four-day event is being hosted at the 6,703 yard, par-71 Thornblade Club layout.

The Palmetto State's finest amateur golfers are squaring off at the Thornblade Club, with the 72-hole event including the top golfers in South Carolina who have either qualified for their position or earned an exemption based on previous accomplishments. The list of former champions including Lucas Glover, DJ Trahan and Bill Haas.

The format will include 72-hole stroke play to determine the champion, with a 36-hole cut to the low-70 plus ties.

Augusta's Jake Carter fired a first-round 7-under-par 64 and leads a trio of golfers by one shot - Bobby Few (Lugoff), Judson Holliday (Aynor) and Danny Brock (Greenville) each posted opening-round 66s – and are one stroke in front of an additional four players in the 144-player field.

Miller birdied the third hole, as well as notching birdies on No. 8 and No. 14 – all par 4s, while posting bogeys on No. 1, No. 15 and the 18th hole.

The first round is slated to resume Friday morning at 7:30 a.m., with Miller scheduled for a 1:20 tee time.
