Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Hargett Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Led by junior John Moore and freshman Arran Setro's one-over par 73s, the Anderson University's men's golf team finished third at the 11th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by Wingate at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation.

Wingate University junior Clifford Blanquicet shot a Bulldog career-best 69 to take medalist honors, while Tusculum College won the team title by one stroke over the host Bulldogs (295-296). The South Atlantic Conference swept the top four spots in the 11-team tournament, as Anderson (302) and Catawba College (306) occupied the third and fourth spots on the team charts. SAC member Lenoir-Rhyne University tied for fifth place with Pfeiffer University and Spartanburg Methodist College at 312.

Blanquicet was the model of consistency Tuesday, recording a Tuesday-high 15 pars on the par 72, 6936-yard layout. Tusculum junior Justin Harvey finished second at one-under-par 71. Harvey led the 64-player field in par four scoring at two-under-par (3.80 stroke average).

Moore (37-36=73) and Setro (37-36=73) carded identical scores for the event to finish in a three-way tie for seventh. The tournament became a one-day, 18-hole event Monday's opening round was washed out.

Freshman Sean Shelton (37-39=76) fired a four-over par 76, which garnered a share of 12th, while junior Chase Epting (40-40=80) posted an eight-over 80 to tie for 28th.

The Trojans have a week off before heading to the South Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by Wingate at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C.
