Men’s Golf Tied for Second Following Day One of Old North State Invitational

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Freshman Sean Shelton's six-over par 78 led the Anderson University men's golf team as the Trojans sit in a three-way tie for second place following first-round action at the Old North State Invitational, hosted by Pfeiffer University at the par 72, 7,102 yard Old North State Country Club.

Pfeiffer's "A" team leads after firing a round of 307 to lead three other squads, including Anderson, by 14 strokes heading into Tuesday's final round. The Falcons Tyson Louth, competing on Pfeiffer's "B" team, leads all individuals with a first round 73.

Conditions on Monday were very windy with gusts up to 30 mph, as Shelton (39-39=78) was steady on the afternoon and was in the clubhouse in a six-way tie for eighth, five shots behind Louth. Junior Chase Epting (40-39) notched an opening round 79 and shares 14th, while freshman Arran Setro (40-40) sits one shot further back, tied for 19th.

AU's John Moore posted a 39 on the front nine, but slipped to a 45 on the back side and shares 35th, while freshman Austin Carney (44-44=88) rounded out the Trojan team.

The second round of the tournament will be held Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
