ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson men's golf team finds itself in 10th place following day one of the Anderson Invitational Men's Golf Tournament Monday afternoon at the par 71, 6,402 yard Anderson Country Club in Anderson.
Freshman Austin Carney shot a six-over 77 and is tied for 19th while fellow freshman Aaron Setro shares 30th following his first-round 80.
Anderson sophomore Chase Epting carded a first round 82 and shares the 82nd spot along with fellow newcomer Sean Shelton. Freshman Michael Marcagi notched an 85 in his first collegiate outing.
"We have a young team, so I was a little disappointed today but not surprised," said Anderson head coach Danny Neal. "I think nerves played a big part today and I believe we will have a better day tomorrow and move up a couple of spots."
With a team score of 321 (+37), the Trojans need to make up 14 strokes on fifth-place St. Andrews to enter the top half of the field. Anderson sits just one shot behind Lenoir-Rhyne (+36) and Erskine (+36), who are tied for eighth following day one. Lincoln Memorial's Eric Kennedy leads all golfers after a three-under 68 on Monday.
The teams are back on the course for final-round action with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
