Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Old North State Invitational

NEW LONDON, N.C. - Junior Chase Epting and freshman Sean Shelton each posted a two-day total 11-over par 155 to help lead the Anderson University men's golf team to a third-place finish at Pfeiffer University's Old North State Invitational on Tuesday at the par 72, 7,102 yard Old North State Country Club.

Pfeiffer's "A" team held on in Tuesday's final round to claim the team title with a two-day total of 622 to outlast Guilford College by seven shots. High Point's Curtis Brotherton claimed medalist honors after an even par 72 in the final round. As a team, the Trojans sliced two strokes off their opening round 321 to finish 11 shots behind second-place Guilford.

Epting (79-76=155) trimmed three strokes off his first-round total to earn a share of the sixth spot, while Shelton (78-77=155) improved by one shot from Monday's effort to garner a share of sixth.

Freshman Arran Setro (80-85=165) slipped five strokes and finished in a five-way tie for 32nd and AU's John Moore (84-82=166) concluded the event one shot further back at 37th. Freshman Austin Carney (88-84=172) carded the biggest improvement - four shots - from Monday's round.

The Trojans take a two-week break before getting back on the course at the Barefoot at the Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Appalachian State, March 6-8.
