First Round Of Regional Cancelled

WILSON, N.C. -- Because of heavy rains that soaked the Wilson Country Club course, the first round of the Atlantic Regional men's golf tournament scheduled for Monday was cancelled. The event has been shortened to 36 holes on the par-72, 6,700-yard Wilson course. CVAC champion Anderson College is one of eight teams in the Atlantic Regional. The other participants are host Barton, Coker, Belmont Abbey, Pfeiffer, St. Andrews Presbyterian, Queens (N.C.), and Fayetteville State. Ten teams and ten individuals will advance from the super regionals to the championship finals May 12-15, at Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand, Florida as part of the NCAA Division II Sports Festival. Eight at-large teams and two at-large individuals will be selected May 6 for the championship finals. The finals will be hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission, Sunshine State Conference and Rollins College. Anderson earned an automatic bid to the regional with its four-shot victory in the CVAC Tournament at the Foxfire Golf and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., Apr. 18-20. The Trojans shot three sub-300 rounds to claim their first CVAC title. Brad Eskierka was AC's medalist at the CVAC Tournament with rounds of 73, 74, and 74 for a 36-hole total of 221. The tee times for Tuesday's first round will begin at 10 a.m. Anderson fans can follow the action of the regional at www.golfstat.com.
