Men’s Basketball Game at Lincoln Memorial to be Televised on CBS

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University men's basketball game scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, at Lincoln Memorial will be televised on CBS as the NCAA Division II Basketball Game of the Week, as announced by CBS and the NCAA early Thursday morning

"We are grateful to CBS Sports for all they've done and continue to do for Division II athletics," said Anderson head coach Jason Taylor. "We are extremely excited they have chosen this game as a part of their college basketball package. We really appreciate the opportunity to represent our University and the South Atlantic Conference along with Lincoln Memorial, which will once again be one of the nation's very best basketball teams, in front of a national audience."

If past history is any indicator, the game, which is scheduled to tip off at noon at Tex Turner Arena, will be highly entertaining, as the Trojans have won four straight past the Railsplitters, with the average margin of victory less than six points and one decision coming in overtime.

In the last meeting in Harrogate, Tenn., AU guard Denzail Jones drained a 3-pointer with 22 seconds on the clock to give Anderson the lead and senior guard Jo'el Lamb blocked the Railsplitters' Brandon Armstrong's last shot with three seconds remaining, as No. 24 ranked Anderson rallied from a late deficit to upset the eighth-ranked Railsplitters, 62-61, in dramatic fashion.

In a battle befitting two nationally-ranked teams, the game featured 10 ties and 17 lead changes, including five in the final five minutes and neither squad was able to build more than a seven-point lead throughout the contest.

The joint program between NCAA Division II and the CBS Sports Network, now in its seventh year, will feature a total of nine men's and women's games from seven Division II conferences. Two of the telecasts will feature men's and women's doubleheaders - the Jan. 5 games involving Northwest Missouri State at Pittsburg State and Delta State's Jan. 26 visit to Valdosta State.

The package also will include defending Division II women's champion Shaw, which hosts Johnson C. Smith on Feb. 23, and a March 2 appearance by defending men's champion Western Washington, which will host Simon Fraser, the NCAA's first international member.

"Our membership continues to value this program," said Division II Vice President Mike Racy. "Not only does it give our schools an opportunity to showcase their student-athletes, it also gives them a big platform to tell the world about their overall institution and their community."

The Division II-CBS Sports Network arrangement also features six regular-season football games. Thursday night's matchup will feature Truman State at Central Missouri in the only 2012 game involving founding members of the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. That conference is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
