ANDERSON, S.C. - Brandon Young sank a buzzer-beating three pointer to boost the Anderson University Trojans over the Lees-McRae College Bobcats 92-91 in a Conference Carolinas men's basketball game in Abney Athletic Center. Anderson took the largest lead of the game, 60-50, with 12:16 in the second half. Three minutes later, Lees-McRae took a one point lead, 65-64, after a 15-4 run that was capped off on a Sam Youse three. The teams traded buckets until an Aaron Woodacre layup gave the Bobcats a 78-76 lead to set up for Young's late game heroics. With 28 seconds left, Boardman knocked down two free throws to give the Bobcats a seven-point lead, 87-80, but Young drilled the first of four three down the final stretch to cut the lead to 87-83 with 22 seconds left. Jesse Hoots hit two free throws, but Young answered again with his second three to make it 89-86 with 14 seconds remaining. Hoots converted the first of two free throws, and Young canned another three to cut the lead to 90-89 with nine seconds left. Again, Hoots went to he line, and again made the first of two free throws to give the Bobcats a two-point lead. After the defensive rebound Young pushed the ball just across half court and drilled the buzzer beater to boost the Trojans to a 92-91 win. Young led Anderson with 26 points, 12 of which came on four threes in the last 28 seconds of the game, on 9-of-13 from the floor and 7-of-11 from three. Taylor Shugart added 15 points, and Kevis Cornwell chipped in 12. Stephen Cobb scored 11 points, and Trey Britton and Jarrett Johnson scored 10 points apiece. Johnson led the Trojans with a game high seven assists. Lees-McRae outshot Anderson 54 percent to 53 percent from the floor and 63 percent to 46 percent from three. Both teams were efficient during the game with the Bobcats averaging 1.38 points per shot, and Anderson averaging 1.30 points per shot. Both teams turned the ball over 13 times, but Anderson scored 22 points off turnovers, while Lees-McRae scored 15 points off turnovers. Anderson will travel to Wilson, N.C. Saturday to take on the Barton College Bulldogs. Game Stats
