GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Limestone College men's basketball team topped Anderson University 75-73 in an overtime thriller on Wednesday night at the Timken Center. Anderson falls to 10-10 (8-5 conference) while Limestone improves to 7-13 overall (5-8 league). Anderson's Kevis Cornwell (York, S.C.) had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Trull (Charlotte, N.C.) contributed 11 points. Stephen Cobb (Raleigh, N.C.), Jarrett Johnson (Greensboro, N.C.), and Taylor Shugart (Rock Hill, S.C.) scored 10 points apiece. The first half saw four lead changes, but Anderson headed into the locker room up 32-31. The second period was exciting, with five ties and seven lead changes. Neither team led by more than four points during the second period. Anderson was up by 4 (63-59) with only 1:45 left in regulation, but Limestone cut the lead to 1 (63-62) after a made 3-pointer by Shawn Creal (Spartanburg, S.C.). A layup by Cornwell put Anderson up 65-62 with 28 seconds left. The Saints attempted a 3-pointer on the next possession and missed, but Evans came up with the offensive rebound and Limestone called a timeout. On the next play, Barrett found Middleton outside the arc and Middleton nailed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to send the game into overtime. The Saints took the lead out of the gate in overtime, and never allowed Anderson to get ahead. The Trojans' Stephen Cobb (Raleigh, N.C.) cut the Saints' lead to 1 (74-73) with a jump shot at the 1:46 mark, but Evans sank a free-throw with 3 seconds left on the clock to seal the 75-73 win. Limestone held a 42-36 advantage on rebounds, and the Saints were 29 of 67 in field goals (43.3%). Anderson shot 56.6% from the field (31-68).
