Women’s Cross Country Claims Fifth at NCAA Southeast Region Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Anderson senior Whitney Bishoff posted a third-place finish to lead the Anderson University women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Southeast Region Cross Country Championship Saturday morning at McAlpine Creek State Park.

Bishoff completed the 6k event in a time of 21:26.4, shattering her own school-record for the distance by 10 seconds, which she set at the 2009 NCAA Nationals. The Winder, Ga. native will be making her third career appearance in the NCAA Nationals on Nov. 19 in Spokane, Washington.

After winning their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference Championship two weeks ago, the Trojans claimed fifth place on Saturday, outpacing the five other SAC teams in the event.

Sophomore Hannah Robles (23:33.3) crossed the line in 33rd, while junior Amanda Johnson finished 48th in a time of 23:52.5.

Freshman Sydney Hazel (24:00.9) earned a 55th-place finish, while junior Emily Eckroth (24:10.8) crossed the line in 60th. Sophomore Rachel Westberry (25:03.1) rounded out the AU contingent in 102nd.
