TWO TOP TEN FINISHES FOR TROJAN TRACK AND FIELD

TWO TOP TEN FINISHES FOR TROJAN TRACK AND FIELD

ATLANTA, GA--Gray filled the skies over Atlanta on Friday night, and what had started out as a promising meet for the Anderson University track and field teams at the Emory Classic ended abruptly with thunderstorms and a downpour like we've not seen in two years; but the Trojan men (7 of 16) and women's (8 of 17) track and field team both pulled out a couple of top ten finishes, and Lauren Sloan, the reigning female field player of the week put up another outstanding performance, scoring 13 out of the total 17 points earned on the day for the Lady Trojans. Competing in the hammer throw, Sloan heaved a personal best toss of 118-08.00, but the freshman did what she does best next, and launched the shot 41-00.50, this time good enough for a first place finish. Sloan's hammer throw was also an Anderson University school record. Duracelle Campbell had a personal best and a seventh place finish in the hammer as she posted a 115-02.00. Katelyn Rogers and Ashley Blome finished out the rain-shortened meet for the ladies. Blome finished with a season best time in the 400m with a 1:09.55, posting a sixth place finish. Rogers grabbed top ten finishes in the high jump and the javelin. For the men, the rain meant only two would even compete. Rayon Markland and Nate Parsons made the most of it though, as Parsons grabbed third place in the steeple chase and Markland posted a third place finish in the javelin. Parsons time of 9:35.10 was a personal best and an Anderson University school record. The men's and women's track and field teams will head to Greensboro, NC on Friday to compete at NC A&T State. Competition will begin at 10 AM.
