TROJAN TRACK AND FIELD FINISH IN TOP TEN AT EMORY

ATLANTA, GA--Building an athletic program is a process that takes time; the Anderson University men's and women's track and field teams made more headway to that end this weekend when they competed in the Emory University Invitational among 19 men's teams and 17 women's teams, many of them NCAA Division I schools. The Trojans logged a top ten team finish, while breaking seven AU track and field records. Sophomore, Robbie McCracken had a very solid day for the Trojans finishing third overall in shot put with a throw of 42-04.75. McCracken placed fifth in the men's discus, marking a personal best and in the process setting an AU school record with a throw of 120-05.00. Lauren Sloan, an AU freshman, led the women in the field competition. Sloan garnered a second place finish in the women's shot put with a throw of 41-08.50--a personal best; and then she launched a season high throw of 123-05.00 in the women's discus to finish in fifth place in that event. The track portion of the invitational was led on the men's side by junior Alex Jordan. In the 1500 meter run, Jordan took seventh place with a time of 3:59.88, his personal Best, and also an AU school record. For the women, none other than 2008 Conference Carolinas cross country champion, Whitney Bishoff led the way. Bishoff ran with a purpose in the 5000 meter, taking second place, setting an AU school record, and setting a personal best time in the process. The freshman continues to stake her claim as the most decorated freshman runner in AU history. Rayon Markland had a noteworthy performance for the men, taking second place in the javelin with a throw of 175-05.00. Katelyn Rodgers threw the javelin on the women's side and with an 89-02.00 effort; she recorded a personal best, set a school record, and finished in third place. Rounding out the weekend for the men were Zerron Forte and Nate Parsons. Forte ran in the 100 meter and 200 meter and logged personal bests in each race. Parsons set an AU record in the steeplechase, posting a personal best time of 9:41.37, and grabbing a second place finish.
