SEWANEE, TN--Anderson University track and field is only in its eighth year, but the Trojans went to Tenessee and competed like a storied program, as Durecelle Campbell took first place in the women's weight throw, setting a personal best and a school record in the process. The Trojans competed in the Sewanee Indoor Invitational this past Saturday, February 28. Campbell, a sophomore from Seneca, SC, posted a 43' 9.25" throw to out do her closest competition by a whopping 6' 4.75". Taking third in the same competition was AU freshman thrower Lauren Sloan. A native of Reynoldsburg, OH, Sloan's strength is the shot put. It showed this weekend as the young hurler won the women's shot competition by posting a throw of 36' 7". Freshman cross country standout Whitney Bishoff, the reigning Conference Carolinas 5K Champion, Conference Runner of the Year, and Conference Rookie of the Year did what she does best in the 3000m. Bishoff took first place, posting a time of 11:01.35. Chelsea Rogers, a sophomore from Cobleskill, NY, ran well in the 800m with a 2nd place finish and a time of 2:26.68. Sophomore Lynne Flint from Fairbanks, Alaska took second in the women's mile turning in a time of 5:37.61. Ashley Blome took fifth in the 400 meter run with a 1:02.76 and Candace Homer took fifth in the 800 meter run with a 2:33.35. The AU men's track and field team did not have any winners, but they were competitive and consistent. Sophomore Alex Jordan led the men as he brought his cross country prowess to the track taking 2nd in the 3000m with a time of 9:05.20. Men's thrower, Robbie McCracken, showed strongly in the men's shot, tossing a 43' 5.25". Freshmen Drew Mahaffey and Chase Robinson took 3rd place and 5th place in the 800 meter run respectively, while Zerron Forte of Trinidad took fifth in the 55 meter dash. The AU throwers will be traveling to Savannah State University this coming weekend; the rest of the Trojans track and field team will take a two week rest, as they prepare for the outdoor season.
