TROJAN THROWERS MAKE THEIR MARK IN SAVANNAH

SAVANNAH, GA--The Anderson University Trojan throwers began the outdoor track season this weekend at Savannah State University, as they competed in the '09 Tiger Open. They came back with something to show for it; Trojan throwers racked up six personal bests, posted two school records, and added two first place finishes--just for good measure. On the men's side for AU, Rayon Markland led the way, as he flew his opponents in the javelin competition. Markland, a second team all-Conference Carolinas soccer performer for the Trojans, launched his javelin 177'10" for a first place finish, a personal best, and an Anderson University track and field record. Lauren Sloan won her second competition in a row in the women's shot put as she posted a distance of 39'1.50". Senior Chris Lee earned fourth place in the men's javelin competition, posting a personal best 146'4". Katelyn Rogers joined her with a good showing on the women's side as she took second place in the javelin posting a score of 84'4.50". Robbie McCracken scored a personal best throw 44'7" in men's shot put, while he set a school record and a personal best in men's discus with a throw of 116'10". Sophomore Derrike Black posted a personal best in shot put with a throw of 6'2". "This was a great start to the outdoor season," said throwers coach, Marshall Creamer. "Everyone is well ahead of where they were at this time last year; our goal was to come out and compete, and that is what we did." The Trojan track and field team will resume full duty next week as they travel to Emory University for their Spring Classic.
