LaGarde Records First For AU At UNC Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Freshman Aaron LaGarde became the first Anderson University track athlete to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II national indoor meet at the Texas Roadhouse Classic at the University of North Carolina last weekend. LaGarde, a freshman from Stone Mountain, Ga., recorded a school-record triple jump of 47-1 to finish eighth overall and first in his section. Three other Anderson athletes set school records at the meet: Kurtina Ricketts (60 meters, 8.21), (200 meters, 27.18); Thomasena Smith (triple jump, 36-2.25); and Justin Smith (weight throw, 40-3.5). Other notable performances by Anderson athletes were: Lynne Flint (800 meters, 2:31.52); Diana Willard (5,000 meters, 18:32.15, seventh place); Andrea Berg (60 meters, 8.61); Ashley Blome (800 meters, 2:35.73); Ashley McClellion (3,000 meters, 11:48.35); Zeronn Forte (60 meters, 7.31; 200 meters, 24.43); Alex Jordan (mile, 4:37.37); Stephen Dickey (mile, 4:59.84); Nate Parsons (3,000 meters, 9:27.77); Jason Bryan (3,000 meters, 9:30.58); Jeremy Hunsaker (5,000 meters, 16:29.46). Anderson's next meet is Saturday, Feb. 9, at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.
