ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University women's tennis has been tabbed seventh in the South Atlantic Conference Coaches' Poll, released on Friday morning.
Wingate was voted as the preseason favorite with 11 first-place votes and 143 points. Queens was voted second with one first-place vote and 135 points, while Newberry was picked third with one first-place vote and 124 points. Carson-Newman was voted in at No. 4 with 121 points, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 5 with 109 points.
Tusculum placed No. 6 with 96 points and Anderson was voted No. 7 with 95 points. Limestone took the No. 8 spot with 83 points, while Lincoln Memorial was voted No. 9 with 76 points. Catawba followed with 60 points at No. 10, Mars Hill was No. 11 with 49 points, Coker was picked No. 12 with 43 points, and UVA Wise was No. 13 with 36 points.
A season ago, Anna Greer and Katie Robeson played in the No. 2 slot, earning Honorable Mention-Doubles. The sophomore and freshman pairing held a 7-3 overall record and was 6-3 in conference play. Greer and Robeson are ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region with high expectations for the championship spring season.
Last year, Greer was also named to Second Team – Singles, toughing it out in the No. 1 slot. The native of Boiling Springs, S.C. had a 4-7 overall record and was 4-6 in the SAC. Greer lost three of her matches in three-set thrillers. The junior is ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region and she went 2-0 with solid play against USC Sumter and North Greenville during the fall.
The Black and Gold open their 2022 season at home versus nonconference opponent Columbus Stat on Feb. 2nd. First-serve is at 2 pm.
