Trojans Fall to LMU to Wrap Inaugural Season

Harrogate, Tenn.- The Trojans came up short losing to the LMU Railsplitters 20-13 on Saturday afternoon. Anderson led throughout the entire first half before LMU gained control in the third quarter outscoring the black and gold in the second half 15-6 securing their spot in the conference tournament.

The Trojans wrapped up an impressive inaugural season with an overall record of 9-8 while being 4-6 in conference play. The black and gold recorded a 7-3 record at home in their first season at Spero Financial Field while going 2-5 on the road.

How it Happened

Hannah Thomas scored the first goal of the game giving an early lead to the Trojans. Lincoln Memorial answered with a goal of their own before Thomas netted her second goal of the game off a free position shot. The Railsplitters grabbed another goal to tie the game at two until Anderson's Zella Stratbucker scored unassisted to finish the first period. Anderson led 3-2 at the end of the first period.

LMU opened the second quarter with a quick goal tying the game at three. The Trojans then scored four consecutive goals first from Katy Snyder, unassisted. Laine Stanton scored less than a minute later off a pass from Gwen Ontiveros. Zella Stratbucker then scored back-to-back goals, unassisted, before LMU netted two more. Trojans led 7-5 heading into halftime

The Trojans opened the third quarter with a goal from Gwen Ontiveros before LMU scored two putting them within one of the Trojans. Alicia Cannon scored the remaining three goals for the black and gold, one unassisted and two coming from free position shots. The Railsplitters gained momentum and took control of the game in the third quarter. After tying up the score at 11, The Trojans were unable to recover. Lincoln Memorial outscored Anderson 8-4 in the third giving them the 13-11 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Railsplitters scored seven more goals in the final period while the Trojans netted only two. Gwen Ontiveros scored her second goal off a pass from Cannon and Cassidy Jones scored the final goal of the game, assisted by Cannon, with four minutes to play. The Trojans fell to LMU 20-13 unable to secure a spot in the conference tournament and ending their inaugural season.
