ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson University women's lacrosse team opens its inaugural season at home against non-conference opponent Southern Wesleyan from the Conference Carolinas, Feb. 11.
The Trojans' schedule features 10 conference games and seven non-conference games with the season opening with a six-game streak of non-conference opponents.
"We're playing all regional teams and some we know about, some we don't, but we've got some good teams sprinkled in to help us prepare for our conference schedule," said Head Coach Gail Wallach. "We're playing teams in three out of the four conferences in our region so that's really helpful for us and good perspective for not just now, but for the future of the program."
The Black and Gold will host 10 games at Spero Financial Field in their first season while being on the road for seven games. The Trojans begin conference play against Coker when they host the Cobras, March 4.
Coach Wallach on playing in the South Atlantic Conference: "There has been a lot of shift in the conference in the last few years so we are glad to jump in and keep working to see where we are. It's a lot of excitement and a little bit of unknown, but all that stuff is why we do what we do. I'm sure everybody's looking at us like we're the new kids on the block and we're young, but that doesn't really bother us."
Anderson University will be joining 10 other SAC teams competing in women's lacrosse. "We're excited to be in this conference," said Wallach, "It has earned a lot of respect for who's in it, so we're just ready to go."
The Trojans round out their regular season with a road game at Lincoln Memorial.
