Trojans Lose Hard Fought Battle to Crusaders

Tigerville, S.C.- The Anderson Women's lacrosse team fought hard but could not overcome the Crusaders from North Greenville University in their 15-13 loss on Monday night. The teams went back and forth tying the score four times throughout the game.

Trojans had the upper hand in the first period before the Crusaders tied it up heading into halftime. The second half was a battle until the final horn with the black and gold unable to overcome the two goal deficit.

How it Happened

The Trojans came out strong scoring the first two goals of the game off man-up free position shots by Megan Cann and Hannah Thomas. The Crusaders answered with their first goal before Cassidy Jones scored off an assist from Hannah Thomas. NGU netted one more before the end of the first period making the score 3-2 Trojans up by one.

The second quarter opened with the Crusaders scoring off a free position shot evening the score to three a piece. The rest of the quarter went back and forth, the black and gold scored two in a row with NGU answering with two goals of their own. Trojans answered back with three goals before the Crusaders netted three more to head into halftime all tied up with eight goals each.

North Greenville opened the third period with two goals before Alicia Cannon scored one unassisted for the Trojans. Back and forth goals again would end the third quarter with NGU on top 12-10.

The Trojans stormed into the final quarter with Hannah Thomas scoring unassisted and Alicia Cannon tying the game 12-12 off a free position shot. AU committed two fouls in the final seven minutes leading the Crusaders to score two more goals from free position shots before scoring another unassisted with less than a minute to play. Hannah Thomas netted one last goal with 14 seconds to play leaving the Trojans out of time to overcome the Crusaders.

Kora Turner made 11 saves

Hannah Thomas led AU scorers with five goals.

Alicia Cannon recorded three goals and nine draw controls.

Gwen Ontiveros had three goals.

Meredith Dawson had three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Katy Snyder won five draw controls.

Up Next

The Trojans host nonconference opponent Converse at home on Wednesday (March 1) with first draw set for 7 p.m.
