ANDERSON, S.C. – Jessica Rathbone of the Anderson University women's golf team, and Julian Kenzlers of the men's tennis team have been named the Jimmy John's Female and Male athletes of the week.
Rathbone, a sophomore, led AU to its second South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship in three seasons last week.
The native of Montpelier, Va., parlayed a tournament-record and school-record, three-round 208 into the Trojans' first-ever individual title. Rathbone carded 12 birdies over the three rounds, including five on Championship Tuesday, while posting an eagle on the par-5 11th hole during the final round. She claimed Tournament MVP honors with the win and earned all-tournament accolades for the second straight year after her third-round 67 matched the second-best score in school history and the lowest round by an AU golfer at a conference championship.
Kenzlers, a freshman from Herten, Germany helped lead the Trojans to a 2-0 record on the week. Anderson defeated #31 Wingate, 4-3 and Lincoln Memorial, 5-2, to improve its overall record to 13-5 overall and 9-2 SAC. For the week, Kenzler was 1-1 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles action.
Each week, one male and one female student-athlete are honored as the Jimmy John's Athlete of the Week for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
