THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Pfeiffer is picked first in this year's Conference Carolinas 2008 preseason coaches poll. It is the fourth consecutive year the Falcons have been picked to win the league title. The Falcons narrowly lost to Belmont Abbey by two strokes in last year's Conference Championship Tournament, snapping a streak of two straight championships. "We are very excited about the spring semester," Pfeiffer head coach Brandon Turner said. "One of our main objectives is to reclaim the conference title. We have a lot of talent beginning with our All-American, (conference Player of the Year, and first team All-Conference) player Brittany Beltran. Add in (first team) All-Conference player Charlene Reid, and we are led by our upperclassmen. Our schedule takes us all over the Southeast, and we can't wait to get started." Belmont Abbey comes into the '08 season as defending conference champion. The Crusaders won the '07 league tournament by two strokes at the Salem Glen Golf Course in Clemmons, N.C. The Crusaders return all of their starters from last year's squad, including freshman of the year and first team All-Conference member Carley Warrington. The Crusaders are coming off of a victory at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational last fall. The team stormed back to make up a seven-shot difference to the leaders to shoot a single day record 308 at the Salisbury Country Club to capture the crown. Anderson University women's golf coach Danny Neal is expecting his team's scores to drop this spring. The Lady Trojans averaged 339.5 in three fall tournaments. "I was a little bit disappointed with our scores in the fall," Neal said. "I think we have the talent to do better than that. We had a high of 347 and a low of 339. I want us to drop the whole range this spring." Neal will look to sophomore All-Conference second team member Sophie Dembroski again this spring. Newcomers in freshman Hayley Parks and senior Kim Hausman also look to contribute. Hausman, who is a former Anderson basketball player, had a low score of 82 in the fall. Rounding out the women's golf preseason poll 4-6 are: Limestone, Queens, Mount Olive, and St. Andrews respectively.
