JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - A scoring drought that began early in the second half proved costly, as the Anderson women's basketball team opened a two-game South Atlantic Conference road swing with a 60-42 setback to Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon at Holt Fieldhouse.

Anderson (6-10, 3-5 SAC) has dropped seven of its last eight, while Carson-Newman (9-7, 3-5 SAC) snapped a four-game losing skid with the win and improved to 7-2 at home.

Leading by just two, at 12-10 with 13:40 remaining, the Lady Eagles went on an 18-8 run over the next eight minutes to edge out to a double-digit advantage midway through the first half.

Anderson junior guard Alissa Diaz scored eight of her 10 points and junior forward Breonda Shannon recorded eight rebounds in the opening 20 minutes to help keep the Trojans within 35-23 at the half.

The Trojans opened the second half with an 8-2 run to battle back within 37-31 and still trailed by just six with 15:48 remaining, but the Trojans went cold from the field, misfiring on seven consecutive shots. Carson-Newman capitalized and countered with a 14-1 run over an eight-minute span to build a 53-34 cushion with just more than seven minutes on the clock.

Junior guard Amanda Parris led all scorers with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, while Diaz netted 10. Shannon finished with nine rebounds to go along with four points.

Senior Zoriah Williams and sophomore Rachelle Dye paced the Lady Eagles with 13 points apiece, while sophomore forward Shannon Depew notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.

The Trojans wrap up the first half of their South Atlantic Conference double round robin schedule at Wingate on Wednesday. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is scheduled for 6 p.m.
