NEWBERRY, S.C. - Three Trojans reached double figures, but it was not enough as the Anderson women's basketball team wrapped up its three-game South Atlantic Conference road swing with a 67-57 setback to Newberry Wednesday night at Eleazer Arena.

Newberry improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference and has won two of its last three, while Anderson (5-8, 2-3 SAC) suffered its fifth consecutive setback

The score was tied just once in the first half, with Newberry claiming a pair of six-point leads early in the contest. The Trojans climbed within 14-12 on a jumper from freshman center Jaclyn Moore midway through the half, but Newberry edged out to a 23-15 advantage, its largest of the half, with 7:16 left in the frame.

Another AU freshman, Lesley Woods, trimmed the Trojans' deficit to five less than a minute later with her first 3-pointer of the night, but the Wolves again pushed back to an eight-point advantage over the next two minutes and held a 32-25 lead as the two teams went to the locker rooms.

The Wolves opened the second half by scoring nine unanswered points inside the first five minutes to gain a double-digit lead at 43-25. While the Trojans rallied to get within eight, at 45-37, with 10:12 remaining in the game it was as close as AU would get in the second half.

Lauren Woods notched a career-high 13 points and handed out a pair of assists, while junior Breonda Shannon narrowly missed her fourth double-double of the season with 13 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard Alissa Diaz chipped in 11 points, for her 11th double-figure scoring effort of the season.

Newberry freshman Haylee Lepaio led all scorers with 23 points, with Kendra Brown adding 12 points and junior guard Neicey Lewis netting 11.

Anderson opens a two-game South Atlantic Conference homestand by playing host to Lincoln Memorial at the Abney Center Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
