ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team came up short in a South Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday (Oct. 22) as they lost to the Catawba College Indians by a score of 2-1.

The Trojans came into the match riding a two-game win streak with wins over Mars Hill and Erskine. Anderson carried that momentum into the first half of play, outshooting Catawba seven to three and 17 to eight for the entire match. However, goalkeeper Zak Stiffler was up for the task as he totaled six saves with the match deadlocked at zero going into halftime.

Catawba was able to flip the script in the second half, as they put the first goal on the scoreboard in the 52nd minute off a cross into the box, deflecting into the corner of the goal. The Indians added on in the 56th minute when Bautista Vechhi-Ramello was in the right place at the right time as the ball deflected off Anderson goalkeeper Amos Uber, onto Vechhi-Ramello's head and into the back of the net.

Momentum started to shift in Anderson's favor in the 63rd minute. Ben Lemen sent a cross into the box, and goalkeeper Zak Stiffler was unable to field it cleanly. The ball deflected out of Stiffler's hands, and right to the foot of Lucas Goldberg who was there to give the Trojans their first goal of the evening, and his third of the season. Anderson continued to threaten with an equalizing goal, earning four corner kicks in the closing minutes, but were unable to convert as Catawba held on for the 2-1 win.

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 26) as they close the regular season at Spero Financial Field against the Newberry Wolves. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., with coverage available at autrojans.com.
