Trojans Pick Up Big 2-0 Win Over Mars Hill

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team picked up a big South Atlantic Conference victory on Tuesday (Oct. 11) with a 2-0 win over the Mars Hill Lions.

The Trojans entered the match with a record of 1-4-3 in SAC play, and a point behind the Lions, making this a critical match with SAC Tournament implications. Anderson came out and played well in the first half, controlling possession leading to six shot attempts. In the 17th minute, a foul was called in the box awarding the Trojans a penalty kick. Senior leader Joao Martinho stepped up and converted on the opportunity, scoring his second PK goal in as many games. Goalkeeper Amos Uber continued his stellar play, totaling four saves in the first half and five for the entire match.

Anderson continued the positive momentum into the second half. In the 53rd minute, perhaps one of the best highlights from the season, the Trojans were awarded a free kick on the Lions' side of the field. Martin Carpena launched a long cross into the attacking third, finding the head of Juan Jose Alvarez. Alvarez was able to get his head on the ball, directing it to the foot of Pablo Sanz who found the back of the net to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead, propelling Anderson to victory.

The Trojans will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 15) as they travel down the road to Due West, S.C. to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., with coverage links available on autrojans.com.
