ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team came up short to the Limestone University Saints by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday (Sept. 28) at Spero Financial Field.

Limestone entered the match with a 3-1-3 record, including an upset on the road over then No.6 nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne by a score of 4-1. The Saints carried this momentum into the first half of play on the attack by totaling 14 total shots. The Anderson defense held strong for the first 30 minutes of play, until the Saints were awarded a penalty kick, with Angelo Fabricio finding the back of the net. Five minutes later in the 34th minute, Fabricio escaped the Trojan defense once again and scored his second goal of the match off a through ball pass from Antonio Ferreira. In the 36th minute, Limestone continued to pile on as they scored their third goal of the half after being awarded a free kick.

The Trojans continued to fight as the second half began, as in the 73rd minute Juan Jose Alvarez escaped the Limestone defense in the middle of the box, and found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, and first of the night for Anderson. Both goalkeepers held strong for the remainder of the match as Limestone went on to win 3-1. Goalkeepers Amos Uber and Simon Krazter combined for seven saves. Alfie Rule for Limestone finished the evening with two.

The Trojans will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 2) as they travel to Emory, Virginia to take on new South Atlantic Conference opponent: The Emory & Henry College Wasps. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m., with coverage available on autrojans.com.
