Men's Soccer Welcomes Newberry to Trojan Stadium on Wednesday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Seeking its third victory in its last fourth matches, Anderson University men's soccer continues its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Wednesday when it plays host to in-state rival Newberry. Kick-off from Trojan Stadium is slated for 4:30 p.m.

The Trojans
After a 3-2 victory over regionally-ranked Carson-Newman on Saturday at a rainy Upward Star Center, AU enters the week with an even 4-4-1 overall record and sits in a tie with the Eagles for fourth place in the SAC standings with a 3-2 mark. Anderson has won its last two conference matches and returns to Trojan Stadium for the first time in nearly a month.

Senior forward Andre Carle found the goal column for the first time since the season opener by scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Carson-Newman. For the season, Carle is now tied with teammates Erik Dahlbeck and Lars Kaula with three goals apiece, which lead the team. Kaula, who also scored against the Eagles, notched his first goal since AU's 3-0 win over Coker on Sept. 16. As a team, the Trojans are tied for fifth in total goals with 14.

In goal, Devon Ashy continues to lead the SAC in saves with 47, as he is the only goalkeeper in the league with over 40 saves. Ashy totaled four saves in the 3-2 win against C-N on Saturday, as he played in every minute between the posts for AU this season.

The Wolves
Newberry enters the week searching for its first SAC win and looking to snap six-match setback streak. Overall, the Wolves are 1-8 with their lone win coming on Sept. 9 over North Greenville (1-0). Since the victory, Newberry has been outscored 14-3 including a 1-0 setback to Tusculum last Friday at the Upward Star Center.

In the Wolves' four goals scored on the season, sophomore forward Davis Bryan has two goals, including the eventual game-winning tally in a 1-0 win at NGU. Teammates Lucas Ferreira and Ky Tyler also have goals this season, while Bryan and Ferreira pace the club in shots with 15 and 12, respectively.

Defensively, freshman goalkeeper Brad Dixon has played in 720 minutes this season and has totaled 36 saves. Dixon totaled a season-high 11 saves in a 1-0 setback to Wingate on Sept. 27.

The Series
Since Anderson moved into the SAC before the 2010 season, the Trojans have never lost to Newberry. In the previous three matchups, AU has edged the Wolves by one goal, including a 2-1 victory in last season's meeting.
