Landon Beck Throws Well in Debut with Class-A Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals

ANDERSON, S.C. - Former Trojan standout Landon Beck was promoted over the weekend and tossed well on Saturday in his debut with the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, located in Jupiter, Fla.

The hard-throwing right-hander began this season as one of 14 active pitchers on the Peoria Chiefs' roster and was promoted after earning his fourth save of the season in Peoria's 4-0 shutout of Beloit last Wednesday, while allowing just one hit in 1 2/3 innings of work.

While with Peoria, the Hartwell, Ga. native was 0-2 in nine appearances this season, with the four saves. He surrendered just four earned runs on eight hits in 11 1/3 innings of work, while fanning 19 batters and issuing just four walks.

He was in the Chiefs' starting rotation last August and transitioned to the bullpen when the 2016 season began in early April. With State College and Peoria he was 2-6 last season in 13 games and 11 starts with one save. He was selected by the Cardinals in the 25th round of the 2014 draft.

Beck went 1 2/3 innings in the Cardinals' 2-1 loss to Bradenton last Saturday, striking out one Marauder and issuing one free pass.

Beck began his professional career with the Johnson City Cardinals in the Coastal Plains League and worked his way up to the New York-Penn League's State College Spikes before moving to Peoria last August.
