Four Trojans Earn All-Conference Baseball Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Following the conclusion of the regular season last Sunday, four Anderson University baseball players have earned All-Conference honors, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Senior standout Steven Cooper was named First-Team All-SAC, while senior reliever Brock Goodling earned second-team accolades. Senior catcher LJ Newman was tabbed with honorable mention recognition, with outfielder Garrett Bernardo garnering gold glove honors for his stellar efforts in right field.

Cooper captured All-Conference accolades for the third time in his career and was a three-time team MVP, and ranks in the top five in school history in five statistical categories. The Williamston, S.C., native currently leads the nation and is sixth in the South Atlantic Conference record books with a school record 53 walks this season and is 11th in the nation with 22 doubles and reached base safely in 37 of his last 40 games.

Cooper stands 10th in the country with a .542 on-base percentage and for much of the season he ranked in the top-25 in the South Atlantic Conference in on-base percentage, walks, doubles, slugging percentage, batting average, runs batted in, sacrifice flies, runs scored, total bases, home runs and hits. He finished his senior season by leading the team with 21 multiple hit games, 16 multiple RBI games and reached base in 22 straight games during the season, while also recording a 10-game hitting streak.

Goodling equaled the school record and finished third in the nation with 12 saves during the season, while making 21 appearances on the mound. The dozen saves also tied for third in the league's single-season record books. Goodling allowed just eight earned runs on 21 hits in 23 2/3 innings of work, while fanning 18 batters and limiting opponents to a .236 batting average.

Newman was third on the team and ranked 37th in the SAC with a .321 batting average, while tying for eighth in the conference with a team-high 11 home runs. The Piedmont, S.C., native was second on the squad with 48 RBI, including three in the last five games and led the Trojans with 108 total bases. Newman posted 19 multi-hit games during the season, including six contests with a least three base hits and notched a 10-game hitting streak in April.

Bernardo started 47 games in right field for the Trojans and posted a .983 fielding percentage with just two miscues during the season. He notched 101 putouts and three assists.
