Baseball to Face North Greenville at Greenville Drive’s Fluor Field

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University baseball team will square off against nonconference opponent North Greenville at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive on Thursday, March 17, with first-pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. The Trojans will be the visiting team after playing host to the Crusaders earlier.

The game marks the fourth time in five seasons that the Trojans will travel to Fluor Field, previously playing Lander in the first two meetings, while splitting the yearly matchups and defeating Southern Wesleyan in 2014 in AU's last trip to Greenville's west end. The meeting will mark the second time in less than two weeks that the Trojans and Crusaders will meet, with the Black and Gold knocking off North Greenville, 10-3, on March 7 at Memorial Stadium.

In the Trojans' first-ever appearance at Fluor Field in 2012, nationally ninth-ranked Lander recorded three home runs to power to a four-run lead before the Trojans rallied for three runs in the eighth to cut the Lander advantage to 6-5. Thomas Padro's RBI double past the third-base bag plated Tony Price, and Brett Cash drove in Padro and Ryan Kirkland, who had drawn a walk, but the Bearcats held on for the win.

Spencer Earle tossed six full innings of one-run baseball and relievers Kyle Francis and Landon Beck combined to shut out Lander over the final three innings, as Anderson upset 10th-ranked Lander, 4-1, in March, 2013, at Fluor Field. Two seasons ago, the Trojans rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to claim a 5-2 win over Southern Wesleyan.

The Drive is the Class A minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and a member of the South Atlantic League and play its home games at Fluor Field in the heart of downtown Greenville. The stadium, which seats 5,700 fans, opened on April 6, 2006 and was named "Ballpark of the Year" for the 2006 season by Baseballparks.com, beating out such stadiums as St. Louis's Busch Stadium and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College, Pa. The stadium shares the dimensions of Fenway Park, and boasts its own "Green Monster" complete with manual scoreboard.
